Top Seed ~ oil on panel ~ 8" x 8"OMG how I love to paint in oil on panel. I was completely divorced from reality while painting this crow today. During that time it clouded over, rained, and cleared up again. Or so rumour has it.
I'm doing a set of four small 'study' panels using a combination of my hard edged acrylic style (but in oil) for the graphic stencilled part ... and my looser, blended way of using oil paint for the more naturalistic elements. I'm not sure yet if it's working but it is teaching me patience as I need to wait between steps/layers for the paint to dry. One down, three to go.

Love love love it! (I have a thing for crows!) You painted him beautifully! And I love your graphic style combined with the realism...
I like! but of course, you must know that, it is after a crow (perhaps one for "Corvidae"?). I must get on with it, while you were being good and productive, I spend most of the day at 2 different lakes, neither dishes nor paintings were tended to.

Ellen: Doesn't sound like a waste to me! And yes, I want a few small panels of corvids. The real (i.e. big) work will come later.
Val: I'm thinking it is, too, now that it's the next day and I have "fresh eyes".
Tracey: I'm looking for more reference material that I can "exploit" with flowing lines but having trouble. I know it's out there somewhere -- just have to find it.
Jennifer: Yes! In real life it's the best part -- the textured feeling and the reflection on the different planes of paint.
Angela: Thank you for the kind words! Starting this series makes me realize that the past 9 yrears have not been a waste and I've come a long way. Even the parts where I didn't paint for 6 months at a time were part of the process. It really is 90% perspiration, 10% inspiration.

Lilah: Secret -- I like it a lot, too. The one above has gotten a fair more attention, though. Weird.
